Lamina of the leaf auriculate or truncate at the base with a distinct but very short petiole, elliptic to oblanceolate, 8–20 cm long, 15–40 mm wide, acuminate. Stamens 30–40 in male flower, with two carpellodes. Carpels solitary or rarely 2–3 in female flowers, scarcely stipitate. Berry purple, ovoid, c. 5 mm diam. Shrub up to 3 m high. Widespread. RF.
