Erect, perennial herb c. 1 m high, with corms. Leaves linear, c. 5 mm wide; basal leaves up to 70 cm long; cauline leaves shorter. Flowers regular, nodding, in a loose elongated series of cymes; spathes scarious-hyaline, toothed at the apex. Perianth segments white to purple, connate into a funnel-shaped tube. Stamens adnate to the perianth tube. Stylar branches entire, ± dilated at the apex. Capsule subglobular. Garden escape. Blue Mts Introd. from S. Africa
