Erect or procumbent shrub mostly 20–100 cm long, linear-lanceolate, spreading; leaf bases sheathing, falling off with the leaves and leaving annular scars on the bare branches. Flowers in a narrow terminal panicle or loose raceme. Sepals 6 mm long. Corolla white or pink; the tube cylindrical, 8–10 mm long; the lobes small, recurved. Fruit a small globular capsule. Widespread. On rock ledges in gullies. Ss. Fl. winter–spring on the coast, spring–summer in the Blue Mts
