Erect, annual herbs, often unbranched, parasitic on the roots of other plants. Leaves opposite or nearly so, sessile. Flowers in terminal spikes. Calyx tubular, 4-toothed. Corolla 2-lipped; the upper lip forming a hood; the lower lip 3-lobed. Stamens 4, didynamous. Fruit a capsule.
