7 species endemic Aust.; all states and territories

Annual or perennial, often prostrate herbs. Leaves alternate, entire or dentate, usually sessile. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, bisexual or unisexual and the plants dioecious. Corolla white to pale purple; tube slit to the base. Stamens free from the corolla; two anterior anthers bearing a number of short hairs and one bristle (Fig. 43). Ovary 3-locular. Fruit indehiscent, ± fleshy, sometimes tardily dehiscent.
